This may be the best Mac Mini upgrade, ever
The wizards at iBoff have done it again!
In case you live under a rock, the Malaysian wizards at iBoff promised that they would look into bringing an affordable way to upgrade the storage for the latest Mac Mini M4. Well, they delivered.
In the video shown below they narrate how they made a new storage module for the Mac Mini M4 from scratch, making better use for the components with the tools and PCB they could find, and offering a solution that undercuts Apple for 3 times the price.
The “xNAND4” modules uses the same Flash NAND storage chips than Apple, and they come with tools for disassembly.
Since the Mac Mini M4 uses detachable storage modules, the upgrade is easy has replacing the module and using another Mac to restore the upgraded Mac Mini. It can even get cheaper if you can sell the original module.
You can find these modules on the iBoff RCC site, plus the shipping cost and the import tax for your country. At time of writing, the first batch has been sold out, but there is a second wave currently for preorder.
It’s normal to think this may be a huge, elaborate scam, but it doesn’t appear to be given the work put on the whole ordeal. If you’re unsure to buy one or not, you can wait until your favorite Apple YouTuber or publication tries to do the upgrade himself.
