Like the last year during The International 2016 Battle Pass, which brought a special item Legion Commander though a new Path, this time is the turn of Kunkka, our beloved general famous in pubs for Ghostships that never landed where intended, and Torrents that missed an X marked hero. Also, the figure of this path looks like a boat. So, technically, we are in a boat.
The reward for those with Level 225 is the Prize of the Saltworm Mariner, and Immortal with changes the Ghostship model by a shark, and those that complete this quest are granted with an alternate style which varies its color.
I think that getting to level 250 should be the goal of anybody with money to put in the game, and 375~385 for those with more money to spend considering the Immortal Treasures for this level. After that there is not so much.
As you may note on the next screenshot, my path is locked because I’m far off level 225, so I won’t be able to update it with more findings. If you think this guide is worth some spare dollars, you can drop them on my Paypal in [My username] at gmail dot com. I will use that to buy future compendiums and make guides over them.
Deal 2000 / 4000 / 6000 damage to enemy Heroes and kill 30 / 50 / 80 enemy units with Tidebringer.
Let’s start with the math, shall we? Doing 2000 of damage is not difficult unless you go the support way, which is the trend nowadays. While it doesn’t say what kind of damage you should do, to get 6000 you will need to execute successfully your spells. The more the match progresses, the more secure you can transition to a physical carry, getting Daedalus and Shadow Blade in the process.
For Tidebringer, I recommend using it against a stacked small and medium camps. Remember, Tidebringer doesn’t take into account invisibility nor evasion, so you can use the angle against Phantom Assassin or a Shadow-Bladed Hero.
Get a kill or assist after using X Marks the Spot on enemy Heroes 4 / 8 / 12 times.
For this I recommend leveling up X Marks the Spot for the range, because at level 1 it may become useless as you need to be very close to use it. Additionally, consider being with someone who have any kind of lock-on to nuke to kill while he is slowed with the Torrent combo (that should totally practice).
Purchase a Blink Dagger or Shadow Blade, and deal a total of 1500 / 3000 / 4500 damage to enemy heroes after using these items.
This calls for the initiator Kunkka. Blink Dagger is recommended for those pesky heroes who can escape with no problem, and it grants more versatility using X Marks the Spot against you.
Shadow Blade, on the other hand, is good if you need to transition to the physical carry and keep your foes ready be killed with your teammates. Again, using X Marks the Spot before may be a good idea.
Of course, don’t use X Marks the Spot if you need to successfully initiate — the later paragraphs are just to build damage only and become a nuisance. If you have the opportunity to kill, go ahead and make your combo.
EARN YOUR GROG
Buff your allies with Damage Reduction from Ghostship for a total of 60 / 90 / 120 seconds.
“No boat is a fail boat!” would say somebody. Using your ultimate will grant The Admiral’s Rum to your teammates who are touched by the boat (or shark, if you have the Prestige Item), that will reduce and delay incoming damage, even if the Ghostship lands on nowhere.
This quest doesn’t say if it will count by hero or just for the buff, so I assume that — considering The Admiral’s Rum buff has a duration of 10 seconds in all levels — means using it between 6 and 12 times, which roughly translates in between 6:40 and 10:00 minutes at max efficiency.
And don’t do Grog XD.
WE POOR SAILORS
Purchase an Aghanim’s Scepter, and use the improved Ghostship on a total of 4 / 8 / 12 enemies.
As it says, you will have to get 4200 gold for your Aghanim’s Scepter. You will have the liberty to push this item far off the game depending on how it progresses.
Is not a core item except for the initiator Kunkka who will be accompanied by other heroes who can share the synergy of the improved spell: Enigma, Magnus, Dark Seer, Crystal Maiden, Tidehunter, and any kind of AoE nuker you may think of.
Assuming you catch all 4 heroes three times, you will get this no problem at all. Mind the cooldown, though, which is 60 / 50 / 40. I recommend practicing in a lobby if you don’t want to spoil the fun and get reported because you took all the enemy heroes out of the AoE damage.
Hit two or more enemy heroes with Torrent for a total of 2 / 4 / 6 times.
This is a tricky one. It screams of using Aghanim’s Scepter with your Torrent combo 3 times, because the AoE is rather small (225) until you’re Level 25 and you select the Talent which makes this spell a 425 AoE.
If you want to get this, you may do it of pure luck. I mean, it will depend of the lineup, and if you have any kind of hero who can bring two or more heroes close to each other or lock down two or more enemies for 2 seconds to calculate the placement of the Torrent.
UP SPOKE THE ADMIRAL
Complete a X, Torrent and Ghostship combo on an enemy Hero 2 / 6 / 10 times as Kunkka.
The full combo at least. If you didn’t know, this means to mark an enemy with X Marks the Spot, using Torrent and Ghostship to the place where it has been marked, and bring the hero back so it can be hit with both spells.
Torrent has a 1.6 seconds delay, stuns for 1.6 seconds, and Ghostship takes 3.1 seconds to reach the site and stuns for 1.4. This means that you should cast Torrent, immediately cast Ghostship in the same place, and finally bring back the hero, for a full 3 second stun.
Analyzing the cooldowns, a full combo consumes 265~395 mana, and the largest cooldown of all spells is Ghostship with 60 / 50 / 40.
If you went for Aghanim’s Scepter, Ghostship reduces is travel time to 1.55. This means that you should use X Mark the Spot on somebody, cast Ghostship in position to drag him to the destination, bring him back, and use Torrent on the crash site quickly afterwards.
Good luck getting those compendium points! If you want to become a nuisance with Kunkka, I recommend reading this extensive and fun how-to.
